The Story of the Ecruising Kombi
The Ecruising Kombi started life in 1962 and was first registered in Christchurch, New Zealand. 47 years later it only had 100,000 miles on the clock and as you can see, it was still in great condition!
When the original owner died, his daughter who was living in Sydney, imported it to Australia for restoration. Like many good intentions it never happened so it stayed, as is, for years - perhaps just waiting for me to bring it back to life! It took me over two years to find it but I think it was worth the wait. The engine, gearbox and running gear are all original although we did replace the brakes when the makeover was completed. Just a tune up and filters were required to get it road worthy - although I did drive it from purchase! We stripped it to bare shell, cut out the rust, no bog was used and renewed all the rubbers, lights and lamps etc. The interior was still original including the front bench seat and I wanted to keep it that way, so we just re-trimmed it and it came up looking great. The air brushing came out better than expected and if you think it looks good in the photos, you should see the real thing! I think the finishing touch was the white wall tyres, I love them!
It drives like a dream and as you can see by the finished product, it also looks amazing... Who needs all the mod cons!
